Information To Help Me With Lighting Design

Emails and Charts

The technician got given these emails that the dancers wanted and then Julie passed the informations from to me so I can start to create my lighting plan.

With all of these Charts and Emails these are the ideas that the dancers would like. As I didn't have chance to speak to many of the dancers and just went off the emails and the charts.

Focus Notes And 3D Design

Focus Notes and 3D Design

In this slide share you can see my focus notes. One reason why they are used is so the people that are rigging can take a copy and used them. They include Channel numbers, Dimmer Numbers, Fixtures and Notes. Notes would include which way the beam faces and what accessories they would have such as barn doors, G-clamps  and safety chains.

Following the focus Notes I have my 3D designs there are four pictures from different angles. The reason why we use daslight is so we can show the Director a preview of the lighting states.
In these pictures I am only using one lighting state just to show my evidence that I have used the software and that it works

I think the Software is hard to use but once you know how to use its easy. I think its good because directors and lighting operators get to see a preview of the lighting states and you don't have to visualise it because you can physically see it.

Colour Call

Most of the lights are Open White with a few colour for different dances.
In the rigging process you would given a copy of the colour call to all the lighting crew.

2D Lighting Design

This is the lighting design I used for the dance show. I used many different lights such as 1Ks for back light and CCTs for front light. additional lights were used such as strobe lights and pin spots for the disco ball.

These are the written ones as these were in the planning process.

Photographic evidence

Photo Evidence

In this picture I had to cut lighting Gels because there was no one else to help rig. I made sure that the gels were cut and put in gel frames before the rigging session.

In this photo I was checking that the light was securely fitted before we went on with the lighting session.

I thought that even though I was leading people to focus I thought I was needed to help out because I wanted to make sure all aspects were right from safety and they were positioned.

Evaluation

I thought my lighting Design suited every dance piece. There were a lot of specials such as Strip Lights and Mirror Balls that were needed in the dance piece. I thought the rigging process was quite hard as there wasn't many people to help which took quite a long time.

My strengths were that I led the person that helped me with the rigging process, for example I made sure that the lights were facing the write way. I also made sure all lights where on the rig to correct way and made sure they were fitted with safety chains.

My weaknesses were in the planning stages because the dancers wanted completely different lighting states and it was impossible with the amount of lights that were needed. When I told all the dancers that they can't all have different lighting design they all had to decide between them wanted they wanted which took more time.

I thought on the day of the dances exams went really well. Also in techs because my lighting design was clearly marked the programmer found it easier too programme.
